INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Two Metro Police officers were recognized Monday for going above and beyond to help a south Indianapolis couple in need.

Last week, Officer Dan Disney and Officer Hayden were called to a house by an elderly couple who was running out of food.

At times, they'd even been eating dog food. When the officers saw Bill Haines' nearly empty refrigerator and freezer, they had to help.

They used their own money to buy food along with utensils and pots and pans.

At Monday's roll call meeting they were named "Officers of the Month." The officers also received a small gift.

Haines says since he can't repay them for what they did he plans to pay forward their kindness.
