IMPD officers break into van to retrieve dogs

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Metro Police officers had to break into a van Friday to rescue puppies.

In a tweet from IMPD Northwest District, police posted, "Hot car! Rescued pups! Officers, along with @INDYACS (Animal Care Services), were sent to check on a van with pups inside. The van wasn’t running and the Chihuahuas inside were getting hot. The Chihuahuas were able to be rescued by breaking the van window. #ThesePupsWereTotesCute#TheGreatNorthwest"

This happened Friday around 6:30 p.m. at 4525 Lafayette Road in a strip mall.

Animal Control is investigating. IMPD was on scene to assist with getting the dogs out of the vehicle.
