IMPD officer injured, suspect arrested in northwest side police chase

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — A suspect is in custody and an officer is injured following a pursuit through the city's northwest side early Wednesday morning.

Police say the chase started at West 86th Street and Michigan Road as a traffic violation before the suspect intentionally rammed into the side of the officer's cruiser at West 56th Street and Georgetown Road, as he tried getting away.

The officer suffered from neck injuries and was taken to Methodist Hospital to be checked out.

The suspect was arrested a short time later when the chase ended in the 3400 block of Sherburne Lane when the suspect crashed into an apartment complex's playground.

It was a nearly 8-mile chase. The SUV was towed around 4:15 a.m.


The suspect could face charges of aggravated assault, resisting police, fleeing on foot and fleeing in a vehicle.
