INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Metro Police are investigating a domestic shooting on the northeast side where a women shot a man she says threatened her with a gun.

Just after 11:30 p.m. Friday night, officers were called to a house on Caroline Avenue near 27th Street and Keystone Avenue to investigate gunshots.

Police learned that those shots were fired during a domestic dispute between a man and woman.

Investigators say they man and woman were fighting and their verbal exchange turned physical.

That's when police say the man pointed a handgun at the woman, and she responded by getting her own gun and shooting him at least once.

The man got a ride to IU Health-Methodist Hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition overnight, according to police.

Police believe this was a case of self-defense and the woman is cooperating with detectives, but detectives have not finished their investigation.
