INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Metro Homicide detectives have been called to the intersection of 30th Street and Mitthoeffer Road where a woman died Thursday morning.

According to IMPD spokesperson Genae Cook at the scene, officers responded to a report of a person shot at 6:20 a.m.

They found a woman who appeared to be in her 70's with signs of trauma. Medics pronounced her dead in the parking lot of the BP station at that intersection.

Cook said homicide detectives are conducting a death investigation.

She could not confirm the original report that the woman was shot.

The Marion County Coroner's office is expected to make an official determination on a cause of death.

Crime tape was draped across the BP lot on the southwest corner of the intersection, as well as part of the Citgo lot on the southeast corner.

Cook said the woman drove from the Citgo station across the street to the BP station.

Anybody who was in the area around 6:20 a.m. should call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
