IMPD detectives investigating after body found on southeast side

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Detectives are investigating after a person was found dead on the southeast side.

Indianapolis Metro Police Department officers were called to the 4900 block of South Emerson Avenue around 4 p.m. Sunday for reports of a person shot.

According to IMPD, when officers arrived they found a man dead.

Detectives are investigating the case as a homicide.

Tuesday after an autopsy was conducted, the Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) changed the current status from Criminal Homicide to Death Investigation pending toxicology.

The investigation is ongoing.

As of March 17, there have been 36 reported murders and a total of 43 homicides in Marion County.
