INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — One person is dead after a traffic crash after a police pursuit.

It happened just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Michigan St. at Grande Avenue.

A police spokesperson said an IMPD officer observed an alleged traffic violation and tried to stop a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and instead led officers on a brief chase.

After following the vehicle for less than two minutes, the officer elected to discontinue the pursuit because of speed and traffic conditions. A moment later, the officer drove up on a single vehicle crash.

There were three people in the vehicle. One, a male, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others, a male and a female, were taken to a hospital for treatment of what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the vehicle involved had been reported stolen.
