The impact COVID-19 is having on small business in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Small business owners across Indiana are making adjustments during the pandemic underway in Indiana. Some companies have moved operation completely to employees working from home to stay up and running.

One of the owners of a small company called Engaging Solutions in Indianapolis shared with Eyewitness News what’s changed in their day-to-day operations.

“Some of our employees worked on-site at our clients, but they have since closed,” said Debbie Wilson.

Wilson is one of owners of Engaging Solutions. The company is an Indianapolis small business that does big business across the country. The owners had to immediately adjust their call center protocol, which is at the heart of their business. Unlike many other small businesses, they avoided layoffs by managing to equip every call center employee with the necessary tools to work from home.

They are accustomed to face-to-face meetings and call center gatherings, but now some of their massive conference calls are to check on each other during Covid-19.

Wilson has small business colleagues hard hit by the coronavirus crisis who have been forced to stop production with no sure plan about a comeback. Either way, she wants to make sure her employees are not overwhelmed or going without during this time.

“What we focused on was this time is what’s the health of each and everyone of you," Wilson said. "What are you experiencing not being in the office? How can we help you? How can we help each other?"

Thanks to technology, Engaging Solutions is able to monitor productivity and still meet their clients needs. But more importantly employees are doing their part to help stop coronavirus by staying at home.
