I-70 closure enters final weekend


INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — INDOT crews will be out in force for another full weekend of construction in Marion County.

Contractors will be working in five different zones around Indianapolis interstates.

Drivers need to plan ahead to find alternate routes for the full closure of Interstate 70 between the South Split and Interstate 465 near the airport. The stretch is scheduled to open Monday, Aug. 5th.

Through traffic has been using I-465 across the south side of Indianapolis from the I-70 interchange to I-65 to get downtown.

On the northeast side, drivers should watch for lane restrictions on northbound I-69 from 82nd Street to 116th Street starting Friday night at 9 p.m. through Monday at 6 a.m.

I-465 eastbound from Keystone Avenue to the White River will have the right two lanes closed starting Friday at 9 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m. Southbound I-465 from Fall Creek to Pendleton Pike will have the right three lanes closed starting Friday at 9 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m.

The entrance ramps from Keystone Avenue. and Allisonville Road to I-465 eastbound will close Friday at 9 p.m. to Monday at 6 a.m.

Entrance ramp from 56th Street to I-465 southbound and from Pendleton Pike to I-465 southbound will also close Friday at 9 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m.

On the northwest side, I-65 will have two open lanes in each direction from I-465 to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street. This is part of continuing construction that is scheduled through Aug. 24.

Single lane traffic in each direction of I-865 will be in effect through Aug. 30.
