I-465 reopens on northeast side after lengthy closure due to crash

465 finally reopens after crash
465 crash slows rush hour traffic

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - State police say all lanes of Interstate 465 have reopened, nearly seven hours after a crash involving six vehicles.

Two semis and four vehicles were involved in the crash on I-465 westbound near Allisonville Road just before 2 p.m. The semi rolled over after the crash, blocking all westbound lanes of the interstate.

State police say a bungee cord holding down a vehicle's engine hood failed, causing the hood to fly open and the driver to lose control.

"Poorly maintained vehicles shouldn't be driven on the interstate or any other road," ISP tweeted.

A minor injury was reported in the crash, which also affected traffic on Interstate 69 southbound, as well as northbound Binford Boulevard.

Just before 5 p.m., ISP Capt. Dave Bursten tweeted the interstate would remain closed until "well after rush hour."

Bursten tweeted the interstate reopened at 8:40 p.m., though traffic remained backed up on the east side of Indianapolis to nearly Pendleton Pike.
