INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Hundreds of Hoosier families helped their new fur babies find forever homes Sunday.

It was the 10th Indy Mega Adoption event, which they do twice a year. This time around, organizers brought in about 1,200 dogs and cats from all over the state. Some families waited outside at the Indiana State Fairgrounds for hours for the chance to pick the perfect pet. Each one cost just $30.

Organizers say they're happy to see animals get matched with new families, but they're always sad to see the ones left behind.

"It's kind of a bummer when you look around and you're like, 'Gosh, I wish we could have gotten every single one of them adopted'," said Megan Bennett, one of the organizers. "We've gotten very close in past events, so that's obviously the ultimate goal."

If you missed out on stopping by, Indianapolis Animal Care Services is offering free adoptions through the end of October with a $5 donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Every animal in that bunch is still spayed, neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped for free.

If you want to see those animals for yourself, you can also check out their Instagram page, and you can get more information on the Mega Adoption's website.
