INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — It's time to put that collection of pet photos on your phone to good use.

Pet store Pet Valu is holding its annual calendar contest, and your furry friend could be on one of the pages. The contest isn't just about cats and dogs. The store is looking for pets of all types to be featured in the calendar, so humans with snakes and hedgehods and bunnies and birds are welcome to enter.

One lucky winner will get a spot on the front cover, while 12 others will be honored as pets of the month on the inside. In addition to the calendar features, the winners will get to make an appearance — complete with "pawtograph" signings — at local Pet Valu stores in November when the calendar is released.

Submit photos online to enter the contest. The last time to submit pictures is June 30 at 11:59 p.m. EST. There is a limit to one entry per pet. If a photo shows more than one pet, that counts as an entry for each pet in the photo. Each pet owner who submits a photo will get a $5 off coupon valid through July 31.

After all photos are submitted, judges will choose the top 50 finalists based upon pet diversity, regional representation, seasonal appropriateness, composition, content, originality, technical quality and visual impact. Then people will vote on the finalists from July 7 to July 14 through Pet Valu's Facebook page.

The winner will be announced July 26.

Pet Valu donates $5 from each calendar sale to local organizations preventing animal cruelty in local communities. Last year, the store raised $181,000 from calendar sales.
