INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - What began as an idea by one Hotel Tango Distillery employee has blossomed into a full operation.

"We've gone from an idea to an actual production facility in a span from about a week, so it's been pretty amazing," said Mike Leary, CFO of Hotel Tango in downtown Indy.

Workers have been making hand sanitizer to donate to non-profits and charities who need them. They made the first delivery Friday.

Hotel Tango was among other restaurants and bars forced to shut down due the coronavirus outbreak. The idea to make hand sanitizer is keeping workers employed.

"We're using our event space for a full on production facility for hand sanitizer," Leary said.

There are about eight to 10 people working one shift.

"It was real easy for everyone in the company to kind of fall into that mentality of 'what can we do to help,'" Leary said.

Workers said it's an item in high demand.

Leary said they are now selling hand sanitizer to recoup startup costs and allow for more donations.
