INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — With excessive heat in the forecast Thursday through the weekend, little ones should take special precautions if they're planning to hit the playground.

With soaring, hot temperatures, slides and swings can give your children first degree burns.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says it's not just those metal slides you need to worry about either.

From 2001 to 2008, the group has seen dozens of thermal burn reports.

They say those burns come from asphalt, dark-colored plastics and any equipment your child sits on.

Make sure you're checking the temperatures of every piece of equipment before the kids hop on.

To report any burns or incidents, call the CPSC at 1-800-638-2772.
