Homeowner pistol whipped, shot by masked men on his own doorstep

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Police say a man was shot by two men who tried to rob him as he entered his north side home.

Investigators say the man was going into his house on Graceland Avenue, near W. 38th Street and N. Capitol Avenue, when two men in masks tried to rob him. The man's wife heard the commotion and opened the door. The men reportedly pushed her down and pistol whipped her husband, then shot him in the leg.

Police believe the wife may have also fired a gun during the incident.

The suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction. Police don't know if they were hit when the female homeowner fired the gun.

Two children were inside the home at the time, but police don't think they witnessed the altercation and were not injured.

The male homeowner is in stable condition at Eskenazi Health, police said.
