Hogsett helps plant trees to launch 'It's My City' initiative

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - With Saturday's snow still on the ground, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett kicked off the second year of his It's My City initiative.

The mayor and students from the Paramount School of Excellence gathered Monday at Brookside Park.

This year's theme is a Year of Green and it's aimed at making Indianapolis a cleaner, greener and a more beautiful city.

Today they planted the first tree of the initiative.

"A tree that will help improve our air quality, it will provide shelter for animals, it will provide ultimately shade for those of you who are able to enjoy it," said Hogsett.

Residents, businesses and schools are encouraged to get involved by picking up trash and planting trees and plants.
