INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Families around central Indiana have been doing what they can to make sure mom feels special on Mother's Day.

Christina Garten owns "Christina's Complete Clean," a local cleaning company. She gave us some tips to help make mom's day a little better by cleaning up.

Garten shared a couple tips:

  • Give the children age-appropriate chores and making clean-up a game so they'll be more inclined to pitch in.
  • Set a time limit and see how much you can clean in that time, or even work while listening to music to make it more fun.

She says when you're a mom, every minute counts so you want to make sure you're making the most of your time.

"Those times are so precious and you're not going to get them back," said Garten. "You can clean house, [but] the dirty house will still be there. It's not going anywhere. I have friends and colleagues who have kids that are grown and off to college and they're not there to make that mess. I think that's what Mother's Day is all about, really being there, cherishing the moment."

Some other suggestions Garten had to help mom relax on her day include doing little things, like tidying up front entryways, the kitchen and main living spaces. She says these are good ideas for families even beyond Mother's Day.
