INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The Indiana State Department of Health issued an advisory Saturday after a bat interrupted the Indiana Pacers vs. Los Angeles Clippers basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 7.

Since the bat is no longer in Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the rabies status of this bat is unknown, according to ISDH. They advise that a person is considered potentially exposed to rabies only if direct contact occurs between a bat and the person’s bare skin.

Right now, the Health Department has no reports of anyone having direct contact with the bat.

Saturday's update was shared as a precautionary measure. Anyone who may have touched the bat with bare skin is urged to call ISDH at (317) 234-4704 or contact their health care provider about receiving rabies vaccinations.
