GREENCASTLE, Ind. (WTHR) — A Greencastle police officer received the Congressional Badge of Bravery on Thursday.

Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) presented the award to David Luke Brown at Greencastle City Hall.

While responding to a call in 2016, Officer Brown was shot in the chest. Brown returned fire, then treated the suspect's wounds before attending to his own.

"Our law enforcement officers risk their lives every day to keep us safe, but Officer Brown's actions that day were extraordinary," Young said. "His decision to treat the suspect's wounds was not just an act of bravery, it was an act of humanity."
