INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The Salvation Army says two gold coins have been dropped in kettles in Indiana this week.

The Salvation Army says the coins are valued at nearly $1,200 each. Both coins were gold American Eagle coins. The organization says this is the first time that a gold coin has been dropped in an Indianapolis Red Kettle since 2009.

The Gold American Eagle is a first for the Salvation Army, as previous gold coins have been South African Krugerrands.

The Salvation Army is at 25% of its goal of $3.5 million for 2016.
