CHICAGO (WTHR) - A 7-year-old girl who was shot while trick-or-treating in Chicago has been released from the hospital.

Giselle Zamago was wearing a Minnie Mouse costume when she was shot by a teenage gang member who police believe was trying to shoot a member of a rival gang. Zamago was taken to the hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to her upper chest.

She was released from the hospital Friday, according to a friend of her family, who said she has "a long road ahead" in her recovery.

"She's a fighter, and is now on a road to recovery," Matt DeMateo said in a Facebook post. "This is a huge step! Still a long road ahead."

The teenager who fired the shot was charged with attempted murder of the girl and a second victim that was also shot in the incident.
