BLAINE, Ky. (WTHR) - A 14-year-old Kentucky girl scared off a pair of would-be invaders with a shot from a 9mm pistol.

According to WSAZ-TV, the girl was home with her teenage sisters when two men got out of a car and repeatedly tried to get inside by kicking down the doors. The girls called 911 for help as one of the men tried to break a window with a shovel.

Before he could shatter the glass, the man and his driver got into an argument outside the home. The 14-year-old, who is the youngest of the three sisters, found and loaded the pistol.

She fired the gun in the direction of the men as they argued, causing them to flee the area. Police tried to search for them, but couldn't locate them after several hours spent looking.

“Although she could have done a little bit better, considering that she is 14 years old, she did a good job," said Lawrence County Constable Daniel Castle. "I encourage everyone that can legally carry a firearm, to carry a firearm to protect themselves and their families just in case the need arises.”

Police are still looking for information about the two suspects.
