INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — 6,500 of your closest friends and family are expected for the 11th annual GermanFest.

WTHR's Carlos Diaz spoke with Craig Mince, President of GermanFest, ahead of Saturday's celebrations at The Athenaeum from noon to 7 p.m.

New this year, guests are invited to participate in the Bratwurst Eating Contest at 5 p.m., which involves chugging a 16 oz. pint of beer and then eating three brats.

Traditional favorites include:

  • OktoberFAST 5K at noon
  • Wiener dog races — every hour between 1 and 4 p.m.
  • Durstig Games at 2 p.m. — booze-themed competition featuring beer stein holding, cow toss, and beer stein relay
  • Live music on two stages
  • Yodeling contests
  • ZwergenLand for kids

Registration is currently open for all special events, and participants will receive free admission to GermanFest when registering in advance.

You can also save on tickets by purchasing online ahead of time.
