Georgia police officer dies after Saturday night shooting

SAVANNAH, Georgia (WSAV) – A police officer is dead and another injured after they were involved in a shooting Saturday night.

Sgt. Kelvin Ansari, a 10-year veteran of the department, was shot after approaching a robbery suspect, according to NBC affiliate WSAV.

Ansari served with the U.S. Army for two decades before joining Savannah Police.

Police have not determine who shot first.

The other officer was treated and released.

The condition of the suspect has not been released.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is taking over the case.
