LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) - A fundraiser to pay the growing medical bills to help a group of dogs that were found abandoned and emaciated has met its goal.

Then exceeded it.

The White River Humane Society was hoping to raise $5,000, which had been recorded by the fundraisier on Thursday. The funds would help them take care of the 14 dogs and puppies that were found inside a house in Lawrence County.

Your help is always welcomed.

The owner of the dogs could be facing charges. When the humane society located him, he told them he had made arrangements with a friend to care for the animals. He said that person fell ill and contacted another friend who "did not do a very good job of taking care of them."

The owner has been asked to relinquish ownership. A court date has been set for July 2nd.

The organization's shelter was already beyond capacity when the animals arrived.
