INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A central Indiana middle schooler is working up quite an appetite in the kitchen.

But his focus isn't so much about eating as it is creating, and it's taking him to a national stage.

Conner, a 7th grader at Franklin Township Middle School West, is about to compete on Food Network's Chopped Junior. His episode airs Tuesday night.

They are skills Conner and his parents say he's been working on for a long time.

"A lot of my friends mostly play video games and I'm like the only chef in the group," said Conner.

"Anytime your kids want to help with something, I think it's important to let them," his mother said. "It's going to be messier. A lot messier, for sure."

If your child shows an interest in cooking but you need some help in the kitchen, Sprouts might be for you. It's a kids cooking school and workers say it's a great way to get your kids helping in the kitchen, even as young as three years old.
