INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The iconic dancing woman on the Indianapolis Cultural Trail just got a boost to keep dancing.

The Central Indiana Community Foundation announced Friday they would match all donations dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000 to "keep Ann Dancing." The match kicks in Saturday, June 22 and runs through Saturday, June 29. That's the last day of the crowdfunding campaign.

"The Indianapolis Cultural Trail is a proud legacy project for CICF," said Brian Payne, founder of the Cultural Trail, president and CEO of CICF, and president of The Indianapolis Foundation. "The Keep Ann Dancing campaign not only promises to maintain the presence of an international artist on the trail and in our city, it also ensures access to high-quality art, nature and beauty, every day for everybody. This has always been the vision for The Cultural Trail. We are happy to advance fundraising efforts to preserve free access to excellent world-renown art now and for the future."

The public fundraising campaign will conclude on Saturday, June 29 with a public, family-friendly Keep Ann Dancing Dance Party from 4-9 p.m. on the Cultural Trail at Mass Ave, Vermont and Alabama Streets. All contributions made at the event will support the Keep Ann Dancing campaign, which includes D.J.s and dance performances and is the last public opportunity to contribute to Keep Ann Dancing.

To date, the campaign has raised 52 percent of its $242,800 goal.

"Ann Dancing" by Julian Opie is the oldest piece of art on the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, installed in January 2008. The electronic artwork is in need of a full replacement. If the goal is met, not only will the artwork itself get a facelift, but so will the Ann Dancing plaza on the Cultural Trail. It also includes funds for future high-profile public art on the Cultural Trail.

“Ann Dancing is one of us, she’s an Indianapolis resident,” Kären Haley said. She's the executive director of Indianapolis Cultural Trail, Inc. “People from all over the world have grown to love her just as we have. No contribution is too small. We want this campaign to be a way for everyone to Keep Ann Dancing, as she puts smiles on all of our faces as we walk by her every day.”
