Indianapolis- A former Indianapolis Colts and Purdue University football player made his initial court appearance Tuesday after being arrested on two felony charges.

Chijioke "Chukie" Nwokorie, 33, was arrested and charged last month with criminal deviate conduct and sexual battery. He is accused of assaulting a 24-year-old Philadelphia woman who was a longtime friend.

The woman told police Nwokorie assaulted her several times in his car and his home after the two had been drinking at a Broad Ripple tavern, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Nwokorie played in 16 games for the Colts from 1999 to 2002.

If he's convicted on both charges, he could face up to 20 years in prison. He's scheduled to return to court on October 28th for a pre-trial hearing. His jury trial was set for November 12th.
