LARGO, Fla. (WTHR) — A man in Florida has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after police say he intentionally ran over ducklings playing in a puddle.

According to WTSP, the arrest affidavit says two witnesses saw 56-year-old James Forbes Clairmont driving a Ford truck inside a mobile park home in Largo, Florida. At the same time, 11 ducklings and a mother duck were in a puddle in the middle of the road.

After Clairmont slowed down for a speed bump, witnesses say he sped up toward the ducks, and they screamed for him to stop.

Clairmont hit three of the ducklings — two died at the scene and one was taken to a vet with broken bones.

Police arrived to Clairmont's mobile home a block away from the scene, where he denied seeing ducks in the road but could not explain why there were feathers and blood on his tires.

The arresting officer said Clairmont appeared to be drunk and had alcohol on his breath.

Clairmont was arrested and released after posting $5,000 bail.
