SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WTHR) - The band Florida Georgia Line presented the Indianapolis Metro Police Department with a new K-9 partner Saturday.

The band was in town to headline the FGL Fest concerts Saturday night at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and made a connection with the IMPD K-9 unit through their canine trainer.

IMPD posted news of the donation on their Facebook page.

The posted carried a simple message: "Thank you, Florida Georgia Line for IMPD’s newest K9 partner!"

According to a spokesperson for the band, their German shepherd named "Sarge" began showing an aptitude for police work last year when he was just 10 weeks old.

Through their trainer, Mike Sweeney, who trains dogs for law enforcement, they were able to connect with IMPD and bring Sarge to Indianapolis this weekend.

He's fully trained, according the band's spokesperson.

IMPD said Sarge's role is still to be determined.
