FISHERS, Ind. (WTHR) – Fishers Police Department is warning the community about some potential donation scams that could be going around following the loss of their beloved K-9 officer Harlej.

"Unfortunately whenever tragedy strikes so do scammers," Fishers Police Department wrote in a Facebook post Saturday.

In an effort to deter people from donating to scam sites, the department created a donation site specifically for the Fisher Police K-9 Team.

This site is the only donation page that is endorsed and verified by Fishers Police Department. If you wish to donate, click here.

Police also want to let the community know that there will be no telephone or door-to-door solicitations endorsed by the police department for the purpose of collecting donations.

"We are aware of several legitimate companies, groups, and individuals that are organizing fundraisers to benefit the Fishers Police Department and we very much appreciate their efforts," the department said in a Facebook post. "However we do caution people to carefully research all donation opportunities before giving. As a reminder you should never give personal information to anyone you do not know. We appreciate your support and look forward to continued partnerships and service to this community."
