INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The first class of the Axis Young Professionals program graduated Saturday in Indianapolis.

Mayor Joe Hogsett honored the first 17 grads at the airport.

The city created the program in August to support young Latino professionals. It engages them in discussions, mentoring and other opportunities.

"How do you function on a board or commission, how are you civically engaged or not. How can you get more engaged in civics in your community. We talk about networking. we also talk about building your career path, things like that. School does a certain preparation and this takes it to the next level," said Jordan Rodriquez of Hogsett's staff.

Hogsett said he hopes the program will inspire more Latino leaders to get involved in the city.
