INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Indianapolis Fire Department and Wayne Township Fire Department responded to a fire at Scarborough Auto Parts on the southwest side Monday evening.

With heavy fire and smoke showing by the time crews got there, they went on the defensive. The first unit arrived just after 7:22 p.m., and it took about an hour and a half to contain it. The fire was under control just before 9 p.m.

Damage to the two-story building is estimated at $200,000.

Crews experienced some difficulty establishing a second water supply to fight the fire. A second supply is critical, to ensure efforts are not affected if the first line goes out due to malfunction. The hydrants in the area are positioned in a way that makes it difficult for the hoses to reach the building. Crews were unable to get a secondary line, even with additional length of hoses.
