FDA warns pet owners about potential link between dog food and heart disease

(WTHR) — There's a new warning for dog owners.

The food you're giving your dog may be causing serious health problems.

The FDA is warning pet owners about a potential risk between dog food and a deadly form of heart disease.

They're not listing any specific brands but say dog owners should watch out for any food where potatoes, peas or lentils are the main ingredients.

Veterinarians across the country have noticed dogs that have eaten those foods have had serious health problems.

Vets recommend owners read the label before buying dog food. They say changing your dog's food can also reverse the symptoms of canine health disease.
