Faint meow alerts teachers to kittens trapped in storm drain

LAKE PLACID, Fla. (NBC News) – Teachers at a Florida elementary school thought a sound coming from a drain pipe might have been a cat.

Animal control officers undertook a rescue operation when they confirmed that not one but two kittens had found their way into the storm drain.

The officer who went into the drain said she had to coax the kittens to come to her. Once they did, getting them out was comparatively easy.

And the story has an even happier ending. The kittens are getting new homes after some teachers decided to adopt them.
