Dog gives birth to 6 puppies after being rescued from kill shelter

DELAND, Fla. (WTHR) — A dog in Florida gave birth to six puppies in the back of a couple’s car shortly after they rescued it from a high-kill shelter.

Rebecca Lynch, who is president of Poodle and Pooch Rescue, told WESH she got a call about a very pregnant dog dumped at a high-kill rural shelter in Georgia while she and her husband were on vacation in Savannah.

So on their way home, they went to the shelter and go the dog named Lizzy.

On the ride back to Florida, Lizzy went into labor and gave birth to six puppies, WESH reported.

According to WESH, Lizzy had a badly broken leg at the time she was rescued and the leg will likely need to be amputated. The puppies and Lizzy have around-the-clock care.
