INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - People are getting a look at the old GM stamping plant before it's transformed into a what developers are calling an "extension of downtown."

It's located along the White River just north of I-70.

Developers hope to build offices, restaurants, hotels and parks on the 103 acre lot over the next 10 to 15 years.

They say the groundwork is going to start next year, as road and sidewalk building gets underway.

"We just heard from a resident a few minutes ago," said Mali Jeffers, Ambrose Property Group. "She rode her bike over here from Harding and Oliver and said 'oh my gosh, I'm so glad that someone is finally doing something with that old site, finally doing something with that old plant.'"

Developers say the ground has been tested and no contaminants from the GM plant have been found.
