FRANKFORT, Ind. (WTHR) - A veteran's burial flag found at a garage sale has been returned to the deceased soldier family.

Aaron Gillum found the flag at a yard sale in Wabash County last month. It had the folded flag and an obituary for Joe David Long of Lebanon, who died in 1993.

Thursday, Gillum shipped the flag to Long's remaining family. It arrived at the soldier's sister's house Friday.

"Words can't describe it. It's a long time coming. I'm feeling the same emotions that we did when we buried Joe," said Nancy Long.

Nancy then turned the package over the Joe Long's first-born son.

"There are still good people out there. I'm just glad to have it in my hands," said David Bower. "I mean, it could have ended up in the dump somewhere you know. There ain't too many people that would do that. Just God bless you."

Bower said he plans to place the flag in a memorial and later pass it down to his own son.
