INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A robbery suspect is in custody and in the hospital after the man he was trying to rob shot him in the drive-thru of a northeast-side fast food restaurant.

Police say an armed man tried to rob a customer in a car at the McDonald's drive-thru at 25th and Emerson around 9:45 p.m. Thursday. He pointed his gun at the victim's vehicle, demanding his wallet and vehicle. Witnesses say the victim fought back, forcing the suspect to drop his weapon. The victim then drew his own weapon in self-defense and shot the suspect.

The suspect was taken to Eskenazi for treatment. At last check, he was listed in stable condition - and under arrest. The victim stayed at the scene and police say he cooperated fully with their investigation.

The customer reportedly fought back, causing the suspect to drop his gun. The attempted robbery victim had his own gun and shot the suspect, who is under arrest at Eskenazi Health.
