NORFOLK, Va. (WTHR) - Former President George H.W. Bush received an illuminating tribute from those who serve on the aircraft carrier that bears his name.

The crew of the U.S.S. George H.W. Bush lined the deck of the carrier Tuesday, holding flashlights to spell out "GHWB 41," a tribute to the former president's "Thousand Points of Light" speech at the 1988 Republican National Convention.

"Together, with communities across America, we raised our lights to brighten the night sky with 'a thousand points of light'," the crew wrote on Facebook.

Bush, a naval aviator during World War II, attended the christening of the aircraft carrier in 2006, WAVY-TV reported.
