Police doing a compliance check found the shack where they were living on East County Road 1500 North in Clay County to have a number of questionable conditions.

After they interviewed the family as well as neighbors, police arrested the mother and stepfather Wednesday evening.

According to a release from State Police, the Snodgrasses were living in a shack-type with "no indoor modern plumbing, unprotected electrical outlets, unprotected electrical wires in and around the building, trash strewn about, raw sewage on the ground around the structure and adjacent to the small water well, and numerous other health hazards."

Police said the girl was "doing well" in foster care.
