GENESEO, Ill. (WTHR) — It can be difficult to pinpoint the secret to a happy marriage, but for Curtis and Virginia Peters, it's chocolate.

Virginia, 103, and Curtis, 100, met at the University of Northern Iowa during World War II. They got married in 1940, had children and ran a printing shop together. They shared everything, including a chocolate Hershey's bar every day, Today reported.

In the late 1950s, the couple even treated their family to a dream vacation: they packed up and took a bus from Iowa to Hershey, Pennsylvania, to see where their favorite candy was made.

Even after nearly eight decades together, the two still enjoy their daily ritual of sharing a chocolate bar.

"Hershey's chocolate just keeps him alive, and he keeps her alive," Susan Peters Cathoir, their daughter told Today. "He shares it with her all the time — he shares everything with her and she with him. When he drinks something, he shares it."

On May 17, 2019, the couple celebrated their 79th wedding anniversary. They were surrounded by friends, family and of course, Hershey's chocolate bars.
