INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Police are investigating after finding a body outside an east side home.

The home is on North Drexel Street near East Washington Street.

It was around 6:30 a.m. when firefighters responded to a residence fire. When crews got there, they found a body in the backyard and called IMPD officers to investigate.

An IMPD spokesperson said the case is being called a death investigation. Police will give an update if that status changes to a homicide investigation.

It's unclear how the fire started or the circumstances surrounding the victim's death.

On Thursday, the Marion County Coroner's Office said the victim had been identified as Cruz Ball, 32. The coroner has not made a finding about the cause of death, but said there were "noticeable thermal burn injuries."

Additional test results are pending that may help the coroner make a determination about the cause of death.
