INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The city's newest "peacemakers" were introduced Wednesday in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood.

That's where Mayor Joe Hogsett and police chief Bryan Roach hosted a peace walk.

City leaders hope the peacemakers will bridge the gap in neighborhoods where police are trying to develop more trust and reduce crime.

"Different law enforcement tools and initiatives, but we struggle when it comes to taking that same type of information, passing it on to the community and having it have the same, hopefully better, impact that we're having," said Police Chief Bryan Roach.

Right before Wednesday's peace walk, a father whose son was murdered in Indy thanked IMPD for arresting a suspect. He also joined the Roach and Hogsett on the walk, which are open to the public.
