CARMEL, Ind. (WTHR) — An Indianapolis City-Council member is stepping up to support embattled Carmel Clerk-Treasurer Christine Pauley.

Last week, Pauley accused Carmel Mayor James Brainard of sexual harassment and intimidation.

On Tuesday, Councilwoman Christine Scales described what she saw when all three of them were at the 2016 National GOP convention.

Scales said there was no ignoring Brainard's behavior.

"It was obvious that the mayor was desperately trying to gain her attention, while Christine sat stiffly and for the most part didn't turn her head toward him. As he spoke, he became more animated and literally, as the saying goes, got into her face," Scales said.

In a statement, Brainard's campaign said the new allegations "continue a long history of unsubstantiated claims."

Pauley has retained an attorney.
