INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTHR) — The City-County council committee is saying 'No' to a resolution that was stirring up controversy.

The proposal was to ban assault style weapons, but the city has no power to regulate guns in any way. That would be up to the state legislature.

Democratic Councilor Duke Oliver, who introduced the measure, just wanted it to spark a debate. That's exactly what it did. Oliver introduced this measure after a one-year-old girl was killed by a drive-by shooting back in March, and following the Noblesville shooting last month.
