INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Thousands of people celebrated the annual Circle of Lights celebration on Monument Circle Friday evening.

Performers from Butler University, Anderson University and Tindley Accelerated School, along with Indiana favorite Sandi Patty, delighted the crowd downtown and on WTHR. Santa Claus arrived on the Circle just before 8 p.m. and helped light the Soldiers & Sailors Monument as fireworks went off overhead.

If you missed Friday's celebration, you can watch it below on the WTHR Facebook page:

For many in the crowd, it was an annual tradition for their family or the start of a new one.

"When I was a kid I used to come down here with my mom and dad the day after Thanksgiving and then we go eat at the Old Spaghetti Factory. I want to carry that on with my kids and make that a family tradition," said one man.

"We're just out with family. It's our third year, so we wanted to come out and see the lights and Santa, of course," said Lena Brock.

"When those lights come on, then the fireworks and everybody is screaming and yelling the countdown, it's awesome. I just look forward to it every year," said Tom Flegel.

Others captured the scene from down on Monument Circle and shared on social media.
