Church opens its door to handle overflow of people seeking shelter from cold

Central Christian Church opened its doors to homeless people seeking shelter from the cold Thursday.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - An overflow homeless shelter in Indianapolis is opening its doors to let people escape from the dangerous cold.

Central Christian Church on North Delaware Street set up 50 beds in its gym Thursday. The move comes as other shelters in the city are over capacity.

"Just feel good about being able to partner with the city of Indianapolis, Wheeler Mission and other organizations to provide a warm and safe place for people who need that," said Pastor Linda McCrae.

The overflow shelter will be staffed by Wheeler Mission and community volunteers.
