Celebrities wave to IPL 500 Festival Parade crowd in downtown Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Celebrities and dignitaries made an appearance in downtown Indianapolis for the annual Memorial Day weekend parade.

The 2019 IPL 500 Festival Parade's grand marshal was Sam Schmidt, the co-owner of Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

Schmidt suffered a spinal cord injury while practicing for the 2000 season opening race at Walt Disney World Speedway. In response, he created the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation (SSPF). The foundation's project, Conquer Paralysis Now, is dedicated to finding a cure for paralysis.

Also appearing was Indianapolis native Marc Summers. Summers was a central Indiana broadcaster before becoming a national name as the host of Nickelodeon's "Double Dare." He is also the host of the Food Network's "Unwrapped."

Jerry Mathers, better known as Theodore "the Beaver" Cleaver from the TV classic "Leave it to Beaver" was downtown for the parade.
