Cause of Post Rd. apartment fire under investigation

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - It took more than two hours to extinguish a fire in a unoccupied apartment building Wednesday evening near 42nd St. and Post Rd.

The building involved was a two-story structure at Oak Tree Apartments, 9012 Pinehurst Dr. Fire was already through the roof when passersby reported it.

Firefighters reported heavy flames and thick smoke showing when they arrived at about 8:45 p.m. Crews called for a second alarm shortly after arrival.

The fire was called under control in about a half-hour but crews extinguished hot spots for another 90 minutes.

No one was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The complex has been vacant for some time.

Damage was estimated to exceed $100,000.
